Tasik Chini Day 1

We woke early for breakfast at 7:30 so we could be packed and ready for our day ahead. We started the morning with our guided jungle trek. We were warned of some of the animals/insects we would encounter and told to bring plenty of repellent and water. We headed through the town and saw some local buildings e.g. Batins house (Village Leader), Primary school, local field and community centre. We met which our guide and headed into the jungle. We were taught about many of the trees and plants and how the locals used them for food and drink. We were also shown how to set animal traps and tested with our climbing skills when scaling a vine on a tree. We stopped at the guides house for lunch then headed of on a boat trip around Tasik Chini, we viewed the local Lotus flowers which were in bloom and stopped at another village on the other side of the lake. Here the boys had a chance to practice their blow pipe skills and most purchased one for themselves, some also bought sling shots. After some target practice we headed back across the lake and home to Rajan Jones Guest House. He got home just in time to dry a few bits before the rain came, it rained for most of the evening. We had dinner and recapped on the day and talked about the things we had seen and learnt. We then headed to bed for another of cat screams.
